  • ABOUT US

    Our History

In the heart of Algona, Iowa, a group of dedicated local business leaders came together in the early 20th century with a shared goal — to help their community thrive. Before the Chamber officially existed, the Algona Community Club was formed in 1925 to support growth, opportunity, and community well-being. That same spirit of cooperation and civic pride led to the official formation of the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce on August 1, 1936, creating a unified voice for local businesses and a catalyst for community progress.

From its earliest days, the Chamber has focused on encouraging economic vitality, promoting local businesses, and strengthening connections across the community. Volunteer leaders worked tirelessly to support entrepreneurship, collaboration, and long-term prosperity — while also recognizing the importance of building a strong quality of life that makes Algona an attractive place to live, work, and raise a family. These efforts help support local workforce recruitment and retention, business growth, and the overall health and sustainability of the community.

Now more than 230 member businesses strong, the Chamber proudly carries forward the dedication of the generations who believed in Algona’s potential. The Chamber is guided by a Board of Directors representing a variety of business sectors, elected by the membership to ensure balanced leadership and community perspective. Ex-officio board members include the City of Algona Mayor, local media representatives, the Chamber Executive Director, and the immediate past board president.

More than a business organization, the Chamber plays an active role in community life — producing beloved annual programs and events including Leadership Algona, Women Networking Together, Party in the Park, Kids Bash, Autumnfest Craft Show, and Band Day Festival. These initiatives strengthen relationships, promote community pride, and enhance the quality of life that helps attract and retain residents, workforce, and future leaders.

For nearly a century, the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce has remained rooted in collaboration, service, and community pride — continuing to write Algona’s story, together.

    Mission
