Founders’ Day Introduces New Community Awards, Nominations Now Open

As part of the 2026 Founders’ Day Celebration, the Founders’ Day Committee is proud to introduce two new community recognition awards designed to celebrate the individuals who help make Algona a stronger, more vibrant place to live. These awards will honor both youth and adults whose leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to serving others have made a meaningful difference in the community.

The Spirit of Algona Youth Award was created by the Founders’ Day Committee to celebrate an Algona area resident, age 18 or younger, who demonstrates leadership, volunteerism, and a genuine commitment to making Algona a great place to live, work, and play. Nominations are currently being accepted for young people who go above and beyond to serve as positive role models through kindness to others, leadership in their school, church, or other organizations, and a willingness to be active members of the community.

The Algona Impact Award was created to honor an area resident, age 19 or older, whose demonstrated leadership, volunteerism, and positive contributions have resulted in a lasting impact on the community. Nominations are currently being accepted for individuals who have contributed to the overall success of the community through an investment of time, talent, and/or resources to local initiatives, as well as a commitment to service and community engagement. Nominations will also be considered for individuals who meet the award criteria but do not currently live in Algona.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Founders’ Day Committee and other community volunteers. The selected recipients will be recognized during the Founders’ Day Celebration and honored as part of the weekend festivities.

Nominations for both awards will be accepted at the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce office until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26.
