    The Director of the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce plays a vital role in advancing the economic vitality and quality of life for businesses and residents in the Algona community. The Chamber is currently seeking candidates for the Executive Director position. 
     
    The Director will oversee the day-to-day functions of the Chamber of Commerce. This position requires a dynamic and strategic leader who can collaborate with local organizations, advocate for the business community, and implement initiatives to promote growth and prosperity.     Job Type: Full Time
     
    Compensation: Salary will be based on experience and qualifications
     
    Benefits: PTO, Health Insurance Stipend, Retirement Benefits with matching at 3%, Phone Allocation
     
    Schedule: Flexible schedule. Office open hours of 9AM - 4PM, including some nights and weekends.
     
    Start Date: Dependent upon applicant
     
    Leadership and Strategy:

    • Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and execute a strategic vision for the Chamber in alignment with the needs and goals of the Algona community, including coordinating and attending Chamber and community meetings.
    • Oversee and work collaboratively with the Chamber Staff to ensure that goals and initiatives are being carried out.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local businesses, government officials, community organizations, and Chamber members.
     
    Advocacy and Representation:
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for the Algona business community, both locally and regionally.
    • Represent the Chamber's interests in discussions with the city of Algona, government agencies, legislative bodies, and other relevant organizations.
    • Hold a seat on the Algona Area Economic Development Corporation Board, and coordinate efforts between AAEDC, the City of Algona, and the Chamber of Commerce.
    • Prepare contracts and other documents necessary to advance the Chamber’s goals and community efforts.
     
    Membership Engagement:
    • Recruit and sell the benefits of Chamber membership for businesses of all sizes and industries.
    • Responsible for member onboarding and retention efforts, ensuring achievement of goals as set forth by the Chamber board.
    • Provide personalized support and communication to Chamber members, addressing their needs and helping them maximize their membership benefits.
    • Facilitate the marketing of the Chamber as an organization, as well as promotion of member businesses and partner organizations.
     
    Program and Event Management:
    • Oversee the planning and promotion of Chamber events and programs aimed at fostering economic development, community engagement, and business success.
    • Create committees and collaborate with committee members and volunteers to organize events and programs
    • Evaluate the effectiveness and ROI of Chamber programs and initiatives, making adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
    • Oversee marketing initiatives, working with Chamber Staff to meet metrics and goals.
     
    Financial Management:
    • Develop and adhere to the Chamber's annual budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of financial resources.
    • Identify and pursue funding opportunities through sponsorships and other revenue-generating activities to support Chamber programs and operations.
    • Oversee the general finances of the Chamber, and prepare regular financial reports for the Chamber’s board of directors. 
     
    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Knowledge of general business and administration functions
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, Google functions and social media platforms
    • Excellent professional communication skills, including written and oral communication, strong listening skills and the ability to make presentations to groups.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, communicate persuasively and work collaboratively with volunteers, business and community leaders, membership and staff.
    • A “can do” positive attitude, with strong organizational and time management skills
    • Professional maturity, creativity and independent decision-making skills
    • The ability to sit/stand for periods of time and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
     
    Qualifications:
    A high school diploma is required, and a Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, economics, or a related field is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and/or proven experience in leadership roles, preferably in a chamber of commerce, economic development organization, or similar entity, is accepted. Fundraising, marketing, or events management experience is a plus.
